New Learning
We are studying Exploration of the New World in Social Studies. We are discussing theme and summarizing in Reading; possessives, contractions, and prefixes in word study; and learning how to take events in our lives to write narrative pieces.

October 2nd is the beginning of our Book Fair. Please encourage your child to purchase a chapter book. I would love for us to read Wonder together. I have one copy. If you can allow your child to purchase this book that would be great!
October 3rd is our Literacy Night from 6-7:30. Please join us!
NO Homework Tonight
There is no homework in ELA and Social Studies tonight. Most students completed the homework in class after our FANTASTIC Field Study.

Students will test on Native American Groups, Summarization, Inferencing, Prefixes, and Possessives Friday. Please study each night!
Thursday Folder
Please check your child's Thursday Folder for important papers to sign. There is a field study form in there as well. You may pay for the field study and all other items online through Parent Portal. No homework tonight for ELA and SS! Students are encouraged to read for 20 minutes each night.

Lexington County Museum Field Study
Please send in field study forms and money for the Lexington County Museum Field Study by September 25, 2017. You may pay online if you prefer.
MAP Testing
Students are MAP testing for ELA- Wednesday and Math-Thursday
Due to testing homework will not be given. Students are still expected to read for 20 minutes each night.
Homework

Social Studies- Students are to read the Native American article, highlight main ideas from each subheading, and write a 3-5 sentence summary on the index card provided.
ELA- students are to complete the worksheet on prefixes.
Two Hour Delay
Richland Two will operate on a two hour delay Tuesday, September 12, 2017. I pray everyone is well and I will see you tomorrow!
Hurricane Harvey Victims Need Our Help!
Jr. Beta Club in conjunction with Harvest Hope is collecting supplies to ship to the Hurricane Harvey Evacuation Shelters. Items should be delivered to your child's class September 5-12, 2017. Shelters are in need of disposable diapers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine products, soap, lotion, washcloths, baby bottles, baby wipes, children's underwear, shaving razors, kid and adult socks, shampoo and conditioner. Please send new/unused items.
Field Studies and T-shirts
All field study and t-shirt money should be paid for online through Parent-Portal. After you login, click the link for student fees, and you will be able to pay. Please send the green t-shirt form back as soon as possible so that the T-shirts can be ordered. If you have lost the form, please send in a note with the size shirt you wish your child to purchase.
A BIG BIG Thank You!
To those students that brought in their solar eclipse glasses. They will be sent to school children in South America and Asia for use in the 2019 total eclipse. If you would like to participate, we are collecting until next Friday.
